Summary

This study was conducted to compare the effectiveness of thyme honey, saline and sodium bicarbonate solution in the management of oral mucositis in patients with head and neck cancer receiving radiotherapy.

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria:Primary diagnosis is head and neck cancerTo be receiving radiotherapy at a dose of 50-60 Gy in the oral cavityNot be metastaticOM grade 1 (according to NCI-CTCAE v4.03)Be 18 years or olderVolunteer to participate in the studySpeak TurkishExclusion Criteria:Have an autoimmune diseaseHave dental diseaseUsing denturesBeing allergic to thyme honeyRefusing to participate in the researchTo have received radiotherapy treatment in the 6-month period before the start of the studyCriteria for terminating the studyThe patient's desire to leave the studyContinuing the treatment in another cityInterruption or termination of radiotherapy treatmentPatient's death
